For more than two decades, Kylie Seidel has been a constant and highly respected presence within St John Ambulance Australia. As Manager of Executive and Priory, she has played a pivotal role in supporting the work of the Priory, the National Board, senior leadership, volunteers, and members across the country.
Among the many women who have shaped St John in Australia, Kylie’s name is one of the most widely recognised. Over her 22 years of service, she has built strong and enduring relationships across every State and Territory, becoming a trusted source of knowledge, advice, and support. Her professionalism, sound judgement, and unwavering commitment have made her an indispensable part of the organisation’s success.
While much of Kylie’s work takes place behind the scenes, its impact is felt throughout the organisation. She has helped guide St John through periods of significant change, taken on additional leadership responsibilities when required, and ensured continuity during some of the organisation’s most challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Her ability to remain calm, organised, and solutions-focused has provided stability when it has been needed most.
What distinguishes Kylie most, however, is her genuine care for people. She is generous with her time, approachable, and deeply committed to supporting others. Whether assisting a volunteer seeking advice, coordinating a major national event, or supporting governance processes, she approaches every task with the same dedication and attention to detail.
Kylie is also a strong advocate for recognising the importance of the everyday work that keeps an organisation functioning. She understands that successful events, strategic initiatives, and major achievements are only possible because of countless administrative, operational, and logistical tasks that happen in the background. Her own career is a testament to the value of this often unseen contribution.
One example of her remarkable organisational ability was the coordination of a major national gathering that brought together members, leaders, and guests from across Australia and the international St John community. Managing multiple events, meetings, and stakeholder groups over several days, Kylie ensured every detail was considered and every participant felt welcomed and supported. The success of the occasion reflected not only her professionalism but also her commitment to fostering connection and collaboration across the Order.
Kylie’s story demonstrates the essence of St John: service, dedication, and commitment to others. Through her quiet leadership and steadfast support, she has enabled countless volunteers, members, and leaders to carry out their own work more effectively.
For future generations of women in St John, Kylie’s example offers an important message: that commitment, expertise, and perseverance matter, and that leadership is often found not only in the spotlight but also in the consistent, behind-the-scenes work that helps others succeed. Her contribution reminds us that some of the most significant impacts are made by those who ensure that everything, and everyone, can flourish.
