Rio Tinto shows its support for St John Ambulance (WA)

St John Ambulance Western Australia is poised to expand ambulance services in the Pilbara with the generous support of Rio Tinto.

St John Ambulance Chief Executive Officer Tony Ahern said Rio Tinto was making a valuable contribution to the Paraburdoo community.

"We are delighted that Rio Tinto has provided financial assistance and is promoting community engagement to develop a new St John Ambulance depot in Paraburdoo," he said.

"This is a very positive action in this remote part of the State where it can be challenging to provide emergency services such as ambulances."

The depot will receive support from the larger Tom Price Sub Centre including its community paramedic Melinda Parker and volunteers will be recruited from Paraburdoo and trained to work on the ambulance.

Rio Tinto general manager Greater Paraburdoo mining operations Scott Wilkinson said that Rio had provided about $250,000 for a new ambulance, volunteer uniforms and training equipment.

"This is a valuable service to the community and we are very pleased to have been able to support St John to expand their operations in this area," he said.
